Dueling

Duels are no-loot fights: you never lose items, and reagents and other resources aren't used up. Your skills and stats switch to your dueling template for the match.

Duel queue

Say [Duel (or use a Duel Queue Stone) to open the queue.

  • Pick a 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2 queue in one of three styles (below), then an arena style: UOR or Sphere.
  • The queue checks for matches every 15 seconds. You're only matched with players who chose the same queue, the same arena style and the same facet.
  • You can't queue while in a duel, or within 30 seconds of fighting another player. The queue pauses while a tournament signup is open.
  • You can ask to be put back in the queue automatically after each match.
  • Turn queue announcements on or off in your options (Duel Queue Messages).

Duel styles

Style What's allowed
Mage 5x Magery (most combat spells), Wrestling, Anatomy, Evaluating Intelligence, Detect Hidden, trapped containers. No weapons, no bandages, no potions.
Standard 7x Mage 5x spells, plus weapons (melee, ranged, poisoned; no runics), armor, all combat abilities, Poisoning, bandages and Refresh potions. Poison resists count.
Alchemy 7x Standard 7x, plus magical weapons and armor, and Heal, Cure, Refresh, Strength, Agility and Explosion potions.

Spells not allowed in any style: fields (Wall of Stone, Fire/Poison/Energy/Paralyze Field), Paralyze, Teleport, Recall, Mark, Gate Travel, Invisibility, Incognito, Polymorph, Magic Reflection, Arch Protection, all summons, Earthquake, Meteor Swarm, Chain Lightning, Resurrection. Mage 5x also bans Reactive Armor and Protection.

Challenging a player

Say i wish to duel to set up a custom duel with your own rules and arena. You can't start one within 30 seconds of fighting another player, or while a tournament is running.

During a duel:

  • Say i yield to give up (not in a 1-on-1 match).
  • A duel with no winner after 15 minutes ends in a tie.

Ladder

Every 1 vs 1 duel counts on the dueling ladder. Your level (1–50) comes from ladder XP:

Ladder XP Level
0 / 100 / 200 / 400 / 600 / 900 / 1,200 / 1,600 / 2,000 1–9
2,500 10
+500 per level after that up to 50 at 22,500
  • A win is worth 25 XP, more against higher-level players (up to ×1.75) and less against lower-level ones (down to ×0.4).
  • A loss costs XP, less at low levels (10% of the normal loss at level 1, the full amount at level 10+).
  • No XP if the level gap is more than 6.

Say showladder to announce your rank and level, or viewladder and target a player to see theirs.

Fighting yourself: duels between characters on the same IP give nothing.

Spectator rewards: after a 1-on-1 duel there's a small chance of a bonus (once per cooldown): a special hued item (0.1%), 10 Achievement Points (0.5%) or 5 Achievement Points (0.1%).

Tournaments

Staff launch tournaments with a signup window:

  • Everyone online gets a signup pop-up. Say [tournamentstatus to see the status and sign up or withdraw.
  • Each tournament has a team size (1v1, 2v2 or 3v3), a duel style (Mage 5x, Standard 7x or Alchemy 7x), an arena style and its own potion/weapon rules. All are shown in the status window.
  • When signup ends, teams are formed at random. Starting a tournament removes everyone from the duel queue and ends running duels.
  • Sudden death starts after 10 minutes of a match: a warning first, then no beneficial actions (no potions, no bandages, no healing).
