Central Mailbox¶
Every bank has a Central Mailbox. Use it to read your letters and to write to any player, online or not. You can attach items to a letter, too.
Opening the mailbox¶
- Double-click the mailbox at any bank. You must stay within 12 tiles of it to read, send or collect mail.
- If you have unread letters, you're told how many when you open it.
- Walking past a mailbox with unread mail, it greets you: "Hello
, you have 4 unread letters and 3 new letters!" (at most once every 5 minutes). New letters are the ones that arrived since you last opened a mailbox. - You're also reminded of unread mail when you log in, and "You received a mail!" appears above your head when a letter arrives while you're online.
Inbox¶
The inbox lists your letters with the sender, the date, the subject and the number of attached items. Unread letters are shown brighter.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Read (left of a letter) | Opens the letter |
| X (right of a letter) | Deletes the letter, after a Yes / No confirmation |
| Write a Letter | Starts a new letter |
| Unread Only / Show All | Shows only unread letters, or all of them |
| Delete All Read | Deletes every letter you've read, without asking. Letters that still have items are kept |
Your mailbox holds up to 50 letters. When it's full, nobody can send you more until you delete some.
Reading a letter¶
The letter shows who sent it, its subject, when it was sent and the message. Attached items are shown inside the mailbox picture and listed underneath.
- Reply starts a letter to the sender, with "Re:
". - Take Items puts the attached items in your backpack. Whatever doesn't fit goes to your bank box.
- Delete removes the letter, after a confirmation. A letter that still has items can't be deleted: take the items first.
Writing a letter¶
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Send to | The character's name. Capital letters don't matter, unless several characters share the name: then type it exactly |
| Subject | Up to 40 letters |
| Message | Up to 500 letters |
- Attach Item lets you attach up to 5 items from your backpack. Use the X next to an item to remove it.
- Attached items stay in your backpack until you press Send!.
- Back to Inbox throws the letter away. If you close the window or walk away instead, the letter is kept and is there when you come back.
Postage¶
| Letter | Cost |
|---|---|
| Message only | Free |
| With items | 1,000 gold, taken from your bank first, then your backpack |
If you can't pay, the letter isn't sent and your items stay with you.
What can be attached¶
- Items in your backpack that you could hand to another player in a trade.
- Not quest items, items that can't be moved, or bags and other containers. Attach items one by one instead.
Unclaimed items go back
Items not taken within 14 days go back to the sender's bank box, in a bag named "returned mail". The sender gets a letter from The Postmaster, and the recipient's letter says the items were returned. The postage isn't refunded.
While a letter has items waiting, it shows how long is left before they're returned.
